DAY 1: Foundation of our Lady of Peace Mission Inc.
The Foundation of Our Lady of Peace Mission was founded in 1984 by Sister Eva Fidela Maamo, a member of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres. A medical surgeon by profession, Sr. Eva became a firsthand
witness to the devastating impact of poverty among the minority groups in South Cotabato. As a way of reaching out to the cultural minorities, Sr. Eva trained community health workers to become “barefoot doctors” and organized health and surgical missions to address the health needs of the poor. Little did she
know that the medical missions would have life-changing impact among the natives. From these simple acts of kindness, the Foundation of Our Lady of Peace Mission was formed. Today, the Foundation is one of the largest non-government institutions serving the poorest of the poor in the Philippines through integrated community development programs. It is also addressing the health needs of the less privileged through the Our Lady of Peace Hospital, a 100-bed charity hospital with first-rate facilities. » read the article «

Childhope officially became Childhope Asia Philippines in 1995. For the past 16 years, the institution has been reaching out to street children in six major cities in Metro Manila, including Paranaque, Pasay, Quezon City, Caloocan and Valenzuela. At present, there are 32 street educators and social workers deployed all over Metro Manila conducting alternative education sessions on sidewalks, parks, parking lots or some vacant space with privacy. A part-time psychologist is also employed to provide psychological therapy to the street children. Two Mobile Education vans are being used to enhance their learning sessions. A mobile health clinic also operates from Tuesdays to Saturdays to address the health needs of the kids. » read the article «
