Christmas came early to more than a hundred cerebral palsy patients and handicapped under the care of the Philippine Cheshire Homes Sinagtala Association, Inc. in Quezon City after the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) picked the foundation as sixth beneficiary of the “Pamaskong Handog 2011: 25 Days of Christmas, 25 years of PAGCOR” project.

Akapin Incorporated

The state-owned gaming firm turned over four television sets, four computers with printers, four karaoke machines, four electric fans, and one digital camera to Akapin, which shall be used as learning aids for the wards of the foundation. PAGCOR also distributed gift bags containing grocery items and toiletries to the children and students of Akapin.

At the onset of the Christmas season, Carmelita and 98 other women under the care of the institution felt more loved after they were chosen as beneficiaries of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation’s “Pamaskong Handog ng PAGCOR 2011: 25 Days of Christmas, 25 Years of PAGCOR” gift-giving project.

The 9th day of PAGCOR’s Pamaskong Handog 2011 project benefited the wards of four more institutions in Pampanga - the Munting Tahanan ng Nazareth, Bahay Pag-Ibig House of Prayer, Duyan ni Maria, and Indu Ning Maayap Usuk (Mother of Good Counsel).

PAGCOR held a Christmas party at the grounds of Bahay Pag-ibig in Angeles City for the 167 handicapped, mentally challenged individuals, orphaned, abandoned children and adults, and abused girls. They were given gift packs of grocery items and toiletries.

Sister Alessandra Casas, Founder of Duyan ni Maria, said this is the first time in the 23 years of their institution that their wards had a Christmas party together with the wards of the other institutions. “Ipinagdiriwang namin ang Pasko na kami lang ng mga bata o kaya kasama ang ibang mga foundation for children. Kakaiba ang handog na ito ng PAGCOR sa amin kasi nagkasama-sama kami.”

Apart from the Bacolod’s Boys’ Home Foundation, the state-run gaming firm also picked the Bacolod Girls’ Home Foundation, a shelter for neglected and orphaned girls; the Holy Infant Nursery Foundation, a shelter for abandoned babies while they are being prepared for adoption; and the Holy Family Home Bacolod Foundation, which protects and rehabilitates abused girls.

Delia Ediltrudes Locsin, Director of the Holy Infant Nursery Foundation, said the computer, digital camera and other office equipment they received from PAGCOR will greatly help them in facilitating the adoption of the babies under their care. “We hope that this will not be the first time that we will receive gifts and donations from PAGCOR.”
