PAGCOR donates P11 million to provinces affected by typhoon 'Lawin'

Friday | Dec. 23, 2016 | 8:00 AM

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) donated P11 million assistance to Northern Luzon provinces affected by super typhoon Lawin (international name Haima) that hit the Philippines in October 2016.

The province of Ilocos Norte received P3 million while Isabela and Cagayan got P2 million each. PAGCOR also gave P1 million each to the provinces of Apayao, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur and Kalinga.

PAGCOR President and COO Alfredo Lim hopes the funding assistance will help the affected provinces and its residents recover from the great devastation wrought by the super typhoon. Kami naman maski walang calamity, we are willing to help.

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, who personally received the financial assistance at PAGCOR’s corporate office in Manila said, their province suffered vast devastation. In agriculture alone, the damage reached around P2 billion. “Ilocos Norte may be small but we are one of the provinces that feed Metro Manila. After the typhoon, yung mga palay, mga gulay, nasira lahat dahil sa lakas ng hangin,” she shared.

Meanwhile in Ilocos Sur, many houses were destroyed according to Ferdinand Concepcion, Provincial Social Welfare Development Officer.

Mt. Province also suffered a huge destruction in agriculture and infrastructure. “Maraming nasirang kalsada, mga kabuhayan,” said Provincial Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan, Jr.

Lacwasan was grateful for the immediate response of various government agencies like PAGCOR in aiding the affected residents in their province. “Malaking bagay po itong assistance ng PAGCOR because P1 million is P1 million.

Governor Faustino Dy III of Isabela Province also expressed his gratitude for the P2-million assistance from the state-run gaming firm.

According to Dy, a big part of Isabela was badly damaged wherein close to 55,000 people were affected. “There were around 9,200 households that were totally blown-down. That is why PAGCOR’s financial aid will be of great help to us,” he said.
