THE management of Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City recently expressed extreme gratitude to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) for funding the construction of a facility in the medical institution.
In a letter addressed to PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Andrea Domingo, VMMC Director Dominador Chiong, Jr. said that the P123.6 million they received from the state-run gaming firm in 2021 aided in the realization of their dream to have a dormitory/halfway house dedicated for the families and watchers of the patients confined in the said hospital.
“We are very thankful to your agency for providing generous financial donation for the construction of our dormitory/halfway house,” he wrote.
The building of the said two-storey structure, Chiong said, would greatly help them in providing comfort to the patients’ watchers, who, for a long time had suffered the difficulty of staying in just about any corner available in the hospital throughout the confinement of their loved ones.
“This hospital infrastructure project is a timely addition to our modernization program and would benefit our veteran patients and their families, especially those from far-flung provinces who don’t have a temporary place to stay while they are here in our medical institution,” the VMMC chief explained.
The funding for the abovementioned construction, which is part of PAGCOR’s support to the health sector, will hugely contribute to the commitment of VMMC to improve its health care services through modernization and upgrade of facility.
The 766-bed medical facility caters to World War II veterans, retired Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel and their qualified dependents.
