The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) announced the extension of deadline for submission of application for the “OPM@PAGCOR, A Nationwide Search for The Total OPM Performer (TOP)” to March 15, 2011.
Bong Quintana, PAGCOR’s Assistant Vice President for Entertainment, said the initial deadline of March 10 was moved to accommodate more participants from far-flung provinces. “We received numerous requests from as far as Batanes and Jolo for deadline extension to enable them to submit applications,” he noted.
The nationwide search aims to produce the next batch of Total Original Pinoy Music (TOP) Performer who will join the ranks of renowned OPM artists such as Ogie Alcasid, Gary Valenciano, Noel Cabangon, Dingdong Avanzado and Jose Mari Chan, among others.
The grand winner will receive P300,000 in cash, a performance contract with PAGCOR, and a recording contract with a major music recording company. The second and third prize winners will be awarded cash prizes of P200,000 and P100,000, respectively.
“We will be giving away a total of close to P2 million in prizes, in addition to the recording contract from the sponsor music recording company. All semi-finalists and grand finalists will be getting corresponding cash prizes and trophies,” Quintana said.
According to Quintana the interest generated by the competition has been very encouraging based on the number of initial applications and inquiries that PAGCOR and OPM have so far received. “Since the announcement of our talent search last February 8, 2011, we have already received hundreds of applications from potential performers nationwide. We are all excited to hear them sing once the auditions start on March 18 in Casino Filipino Angeles,” he added.
Other audition venues are the Casino Filipino branches in Tagaytay (March 21), Manila Pavilion (March 22), Bacolod (April 7), Cebu (April 10), and Davao (April 13). From the auditionees, 12 semi-finalists will be chosen per venue. The top two winners from the six regional Casino Filipino semi finals will be awarded scholarship slots to a workshop on professional singing and stage craftsmanship to be conducted by OPM luminaries from May 28 to June 4, 2011.
The OPM@PAGCOR search will culminate in a Grand Finals to be held on June 10, 2011 at the PAGCOR Grand Theater in Airport Casino Filipino, Parañaque City.
