After last year's hugely successful tribute to "Broadway Musicals", PAGCOR took on the next challenge of staging "PAGCOR Musical", as part of its annual fundraising show benefiting the PAGCOR Scholarship Program.
The said program sponsors selected and qualified dependents of PAGCOR employees thru college.
Employees and guests alike filled the PAGCOR-Paranaque Theater in support of the 13 participating groups which included 12 branches and the corporate office. President and Chief Operating Officer Rafael Butch Francisco, in his opening speech, likened the excitement to the ongoing World Cup fever, and, borrowing from the hit Pat Benatar song, challenged them all to "Hit it with your best shot!".
And hit with their best shot they did. The employees showcased impressive singing, dancing and acting skills, enough to excite and make local theatre arts veteran Chinggoy Alonzo remark that they are witnessing something special coming from supposed amateurs.
The themes varied from the importance of saving the earth, to the sacrifices of a mother and the journey of a child, local culture and history, and the drama of life and circumstances.
In the end, the standouts were PAGCOR Hyatt as 3rd placers, channelling Filipino pride with their original "Kayumanggi" act, PAGCOR Cebu as 2nd placer, with OPM hits alongside "Jeepney Love", and PAGCOR Paranaque as the champion, for the well-crafted original "Pinoy 6106819", which dealt with the trappings of this rat race called life, as soon as we are shipped into the black, white and gray world of the workforce.
The spectacular showing moved the COO and the Board of Directors to double all the cash prizes at stake, with the top winner taking home Php150,000. But the real winners will always be the PAGCOR scholars, past and present, who are now armed with an opportunity to do good and make a mark, and with the hope of giving back, as PAGCOR does.
