Christmas came early to thousands of public school students in Pampanga recently after the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) donated brand new educational equipment to 140 learning institutions.

The turnover of educational equipment was ceremonially held at the Pampanga High School (PHS) in San Fernando City.

PAGCOR distributed a total of 350 computer sets and 600 LED TV units to public schools in Apalit, Arayat, Bacolor North, Bacolor South, Floridablanca, Lubao, Magalang, Masantol, Mexico, Porac, San Luis, Sasmuan, Sta. Ana, Mabalacat and the cities of Angeles and San Fernando.

No less than PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Andrea Domingo led the distribution of educational equipment and school backpacks to the recipients who came from two cities and 14 municipalities in the province.

She was joined by other PAGCOR officials including Senior Vice President Edwin Bermudez, VP for Corporate Social Responsibility Group Jimmy Bondoc, Corporate Secretary Juanito Sañosa Jr. and Casino Filipino Angeles Branch Manager Redentor Rivera.

Domingo cited that aside from the computer donations and LED TVs, PAGCOR will soon fund the construction of permanent evacuation centers in the province that will double as multi-purpose halls.

“Magpapagawa tayo ng mga permanent evacuation centers para hindi na magamit na tirahan ang inyong mga classrooms kapag may mga kalamidad at para rin magkaroon ng privacy ang mga evacuees,” she said. The agency has earmarked an initial funding of P2 billion for the construction of said evacuation centers.

Aside from PHS, San Miguel Elementary School (SMES) in Lubao, Pampanga also received six computer sets. With the donation, SMES can now carry out its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) lessons more efficiently.

According to SMES Principal Minette Banal, the lack of educational equipment in their school has hampered their effort to provide quality learning to their students. The school only had 20 computer sets that were being shared by the students from Grades Three and Four during their ICT classes.

“The six brand new computers that PAGCOR gave us is an early Christmas gift that will help provide our students with more hands-on computer learning experience,” she noted.

Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs Francis Tolentino and popular radio personality Rey Langit also witnessed the turnover of school equipment in Pampanga.
