The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) delivered swift aid to the residents of Barangay 741 in Malate, Manila and Barangay Poblacion in Muntinlupa City who were rendered homeless following the separate fire incidents that hit the two cities recently.
A total of 60 families in Manila and 302 families in Muntinlupa City were affected by the fire.
Financial assistance of P1,500 and grocery packs containing canned goods, rice, instant noodles and coffee were distributed to affected families in Manila and Muntinlupa City who are either staying in temporary shelters or with their relatives. PAGCOR VP for Corporate Social Responsibility Group Jimmy Bondoc, who led the relief operations in Malate, assured the fire victims that the state-run gaming firm is always ready to extend aid to the needy such as the victims of fire and calamities. “PAGCOR has always been committed to help alleviate the plight of Filipinos in need. Aside from our mandate, social responsibility has been one of PAGCOR’s core values,” he said.
One of the recipients of PAGCOR’s relief assistance was Barangay 741 Treasurer Angelita Rustia, who only managed to save a bag and several important documents after her dwelling was razed by fire. Nonetheless, she was thankful that her family escaped the unfortunate incident. She was also grateful that several agencies like PAGCOR immediately came to their aid.
“Napakaganda ng ginawang pagtulong ng PAGCOR. Pinasyalan nila kami agad sa panahong kailangang-kailangan namin ng tulong at karamay,” Rustia said.
Meanwhile, it was the second time that Barangay 741 Chairman Alfredo Reyno personally witnessed the generosity of PAGCOR as the state gaming firm helped build their barangay hall at the onset of his term in 1989. “Panahon man ng kalamidad o hindi, mapapatunayan kong laging nariyan ang PAGCOR para tumulong,” he noted.
Joining PAGCOR’s relief operations in Muntinlupa and Manila were Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor Chairman Atty. Noel Felongco.
