PAGCOR's Miss Casino Filipino 2011

 Beauty with a Purpose

At first glance, they all look like any other beauty contestant: tall, svelte, beautiful and witty. But one thing makes them stand out from all the rest – their desire to make a difference in the lives of others, especially the needy.

When the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) launched the Nationwide Search for Miss Casino Filipino in June this year, it made sure that the pageant will not only honor the beauty and intelligence of the modern-day Filipina. “Our search for Miss Casino Filipino also takes into consideration their heart for service. The candidates must have the same ideals and advocacies as that of PAGCOR, which are all intended to change the lives of our fellow Filipinos for the better,” says Bong Quintana, PAGCOR’s Assistant VP for Entertainment.

The beauty contest, a first in the history of PAGCOR, requires contestants to adopt an advocacy of their choice. “PAGCOR believes in beauty with a purpose. The Miss Casino Filipino pageant basically reinvented the concept of beauty by making it instrumental in reaching out to the less fortunate,” Quintana added.

CONTESTANTS’ ADVOCACIES

The candidates’ advocacies include the provision of basic education among the poor, youth empowerment, environment preservation and conservation, solid waste management, livelihood programs among poor communities, help for Filipinos afflicted with HIV and AIDS, and campaign against mining in Palawan, among others.

The 29 candidates were chosen after a series of qualifying rounds staged in various Casino Filipino branches nationwide (Angeles, Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, Olongapo, Pavilion, Heritage, Hyatt, Paranaque, and Tagaytay). The candidates hail from various parts of the country, including the far flung provinces of Palawan, Zamboanga del Norte, and Davao del Sur.

Named representatives of the different Casino Filipino branches to the nationwide beauty search are Joy Demate, Regine May Canlas, Carmela Therese Ignacio (Angeles); Katrina Pearl Gomez, Zyra Grace Vedad, Maria Monica Coscolluela (Bacolod); Jomalyn Seldura, Queeny Rose Yao, Maureen Morales (Cebu); Mary Claire Dodo, Vanessa Ruth Chan, Janelle Tee (Davao); Ranielah Marie Oval, Catrine Rosary Ocampo, Glennifer Perido (Heritage); Mary Jennifer Dimbla, Katherine Dominique Lagrimas, Ma. Benjieleen Nama (Hyatt); Maria Kristel Empeño, Cherry May Hernaez, (Olongapo); Reina Cuneta, Meryl Angeline King, Emarlyn Rosario (Paranaque); Rosantonette Mendoza, Diana Sunshine Rademann, Cinderella Samson (Pavilion); and Christine Mortel, Nadine Karla de Roxas, Shenna Hernandez (Tagaytay).

The candidates will vie for the first ever Miss Casino Filipino title on September 3 during the pageant’s Grand Coronation Night at the PAGCOR Grand Theater in Airport Casino Filipino, Paranaque City.

PRIZES AT STAKE

The Miss Casino Filipino 2011 title holder will not only represent PAGCOR in all its socio-civic endeavours but will also have the privilege of representing the Philippines in the Queen of the World beauty pageant in Germany in December this year. She will also get P300,000 in cash prize and a chance to choose a charitable institution that will benefit from PAGCOR’s in-kind donation.

Her runners-up will receive P200,000 (first runner-up), P100,000 (2nd runner-up), P75,000 (3rd runner-up), and P50,000 (4th runner-up).

PACMAN LINK GAME GOES ON-STREAM NATIONWIDE

Right after the pageant’s Coronation Night, Casino Filipino will also launch the Pacman Wide Area Progressive (WAP) link in 11 Casino Filipino outlets (Angeles, Heritage, Pavilion, Ronquillo Arcade, Tagaytay, Olongapo, Mactan, Cebu, Davao, Bacolod and Paranaque) nationwide. The game pays tribute to Filipino boxing legend, now Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao.

The eight division world boxing champion Pacman himself will be the guest of honor during the formal launching of the PACMAN WAP link game in Airport Casino Filipino in Paranaque City on September 3.

“This is the first time in history that a special game was created in honor of a Filipino legend like our very own Congressman Manny Pacquiao,” noted Ed de Guzman, PAGCOR’s Assistant VP for Slot Machine Department.

“The game’s manufacturer is confident that the PACMAN WAP will be a hit not only among locals, but foreign players as well. They also intend to eventually offer the game in international jurisdictions where Pacquiao is famous,” he added.
