THREE aspiring beauty queens from Central Luzon were handpicked to represent Casino Filipino Olongapo in the nationwide search for Miss Casino Filipino 2011.

Maria Kristel Empeño and Cherry May Hernaez, both 20 years old, and 18-year old Myka de Mesa, won in the August 9, 2011 qualifying rounds of CF Olongapo. They are now part of the 30 candidates who will compete for the Miss Casino Filipino 2011 crown slated on September 3, 2011 at the PAGCOR Grand Theater in Airport Casino Filipino, Paranaque City.

Despite winning several beauty titles such as Miss Silka 2009 and Miss UP Los Banos 2010, Empeño says earning a college diploma is one of her biggest achievements. “A beauty queen should take pride not only in her crown but also in her education. She also must be a good role model to the youth,” Empeño said.

The witty Olongapeña added that most Filipinos have high regard for education because they see it as an opportunity to progress in life. “Unfortunately not everyone has access to it. Those who have access do not necessarily get quality education.”

Empeño hopes for a better quality of education system in the country. She believes that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) could help put her advocacy into action if luck favors her in the pageant’s grand finals.

“I believe that Filipinos could have better chances in life if given good education. I would like to be a part of this endeavour by joining the activities of government agencies like PAGCOR,” she stressed.

Meanwhile, Tourism Management student Myka de Mesa and Information Technology student Cherry May Hernaez also see the role of government organizations like PAGCOR in addressing issues in the country like poverty and poor quality of education.

“Poverty greatly affects the lives of many Filipino families. Parents could not send their children to school due to lack of money which results to the growing number of out-of-school youth,” De Mesa explained.

Hernaez likewise pointed out that through the help of concerned Filipinos like them, the government will be able to hasten its efforts to provide quality education to the less fortunate. “I firmly believe that this pageant will serve as my stepping stone to reach out to others and carry out my personal advocacy,” she said.

Meanwhile, Casino Filipino Olongapo Branch Manager Fidel Fuentes, who is also one of the jurors, commended the three candidates for their astounding display of beauty and intelligence during the qualifying rounds.

“We are very happy that we were able to get qualified candidates for this event. They are all beautiful and equally brilliant.” He also stressed that the Miss Casino Filipino should be well qualified to carry on the task of bringing forth the role of PAGCOR as a partner of the government in nation building.
