After a grueling search for the most beautiful, talented and intelligent Filipinas all over the country, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) picked the last three finalists to complete the official candidates who will vie for the first-ever Miss Casino Filipino 2011 title.

Reina Cuneta, Meryl Angeline King and Emarlyn Zaira Rosario bested nine lovely candidates during the qualifying rounds held at the Altitude 64 of Airport Casino Filipino in Parañaque City on August 24. They completed the roster of the final 29 Miss Casino Filipino 2011 official candidates.

Reina, who bagged the Best in Evening Gown and Best in Swimsuit awards, said he joined the pageant because of her desire to help Child Haus, a foundation that gives temporary shelter to indigent patients afflicted with cancer and other dreaded diseases.

“My heart is close to cancer patients because my father died of lung cancer,” says the 25-year-old beauty from Makati.

Reina shared she was elated that she was chosen as one of the finalists because apart from the chance of bringing home the crown, she can also help the less fortunate cancer patients. “I also want to help Child Haus to buy a service car. It breaks my heart knowing that these cancer patients commute or ride a public vehicle when they go to the hospital,” she added.

Meryl Angeline King, whose advocacy is geared towards the provision of quality health care and education in depressed areas, wowed the judges and the crowd with her poise and confidence during the Question and Answer portion.

When asked about her opinion if life is unfair, King articulately shared that life is a gift from God and being alive is a wonderful thing. “I believe that everything has a purpose and we just have to trust God. If we have faith, we could stand the challenges that will come our way,” explained the 23-year-old lass from Tiaong, Quezon.

King, who used to join medical missions in her hometown, was inspired to try out for Miss Casino Filipino pageant because it gives the winning candidate a chance to reach out to the charity of her choice. “I was very confident to join Miss Casino Filipino because I want to widen my advocacy and help the deprived,” she said.

Emarlyn Zaira Rosario was also elated when she was picked as one of the three finalists who will represent Airport Casino Filipino during the grand finals. “I never expected I could make it because I never bagged any special award. But God is really good,” she said.

Rosario said she witnessed the hard life of poor Filipino children when she got involved in community service, feeding programs and responsible parenthood seminars while she was still in a nursing school.

“There are lots of children who, at a young age, endure a lot of hardships. Some die of hunger, others sleep on street, some wanted to go to school but they can’t afford it,” Rosario explained.

If she wins the Miss Casino Filipino crown, Rosario would pursue ‘A Sali Ka,’ (Alaga, Sagip, Lingap Kabataan) an advocacy project which aims to reach out to less fortunate children. “PAGCOR has the resources to help those kids and give them a better life,” she added.
