Monica Coscolluela and Zyra Grace Vedad are all smiles after being chosen as winners during the Miss Casino Filipino 2011 qualifying round in Casino Filipino Bacolod. The three ladies will join 27 other finalists nationwide who will vie for the honor of being the first Miss Casino Filipino during the pageant’s Coronation Night on September 3, 2011.

Bacolod City – Eleven glamorous ladies showcased the wonderful traits and amazing culture of the Negrenses as the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) kicked off the nationwide search for the Casino Filipino 2011 here last August 1 and 2.

This is the first leg in a series of the pageant’s qualifying rounds at the different Casino Filipino branches nationwide. The top three winners in each branch will compete during the grand finals to be held on September 3, 2011 at the PAGCOR Grand Theater in Airport Casino Filipino.

Picked as Bacolod’s representatives to the Miss Casino Filipino 2011 search are Katrina Pearl Gomez, Zyra Grace Vedad and Maria Monica Coscolluela.

“Sobrang masaya at excited ako para sa final pageant sa Manila,” said Gomez, a third year Business Administration student at the Bacolod City College. The 18-year old Fil-am student shared she had been joining beauty competitions since high school.

“I was a finalist in various local pageants such as the 2009 Bacolod City Masskara Queen, 2010 Hara Sang Negros and 2010 Bacolod City College Face of the Year. However the Search for Miss Casino Filipino is the first major pageant I participated in,” she added.

The promising beauty from Bacolod, who is eager to support environmental preservation efforts, showcased true Filipino ingenuity despite her Caucasian features. Gomez impressed the jurors with her fluent Tagalog ang Ilonggo. She also gracefully rendered a native dance number during the talent portion.

Meanwhile, 19 year-old Zyra Grace Vedad, a graduating Tourism student at the Western Visayas State University in Antique, emphasized the importance of perseverance and prayers in all that she hopes to achieve in life.

Vedad, who has also been a beauty queen since her high school days, has won titles like 2010 Miss Western Visayas Tourism. She also represented her Laua-an hometown during the 2007 Antique Pahinis Festival Queen contest. Vedad said she hopes to help promote quality education for all.

Similar to Gomez and Vedad, Maria Monica Coscolluela has also been a winner in several beauty pageants including the 2010 Lin-ay Sg Escalante Queen, 2009 Silka Philippines, 2009 Miss Silka Bacolod Queen and the 2008 Lumayag Queen.

“I won’t let Bacolod down,” said the 24 year-old sales marketing professional at the Toyota Bacolod branch. She stressed that to make it to the finals round, they must have the confidence and willingness to win. Coscolluela, whose advocacy is related to education, hopes to intensify campaign for the attainment of quality education among the less fortunate.

One of the major highlights of the competition is for the candidates to choose an advocacy which they will eventually support, through PAGCOR’s assistance.

Casino Filipino Bacolod Branch Manager Estrella Luz Cabebe was elated at the success of the event. “The event was professionally handled by our Entertainment Department. We hope the three ladies who will represent our branch in the grand finals will have the confidence to win the Miss Casino Filipino crown,” she said.

Bong Quintana, PAGCOR’s Assistant VP for Entertainment, was likewise delighted that the first leg of the search for the first Miss Casino Filipino was a success. “Tonight’s competition was really exciting. I was very happy with the results. Finally we have the top three finalists from Bacolod. We need to look for 27 more grand finalists from all over the country who will compete during the Coronation Night,” he said.

“We hope to produce a queen in its true essence. We look forward to finding the candidate who can best represent Miss Casino Filipino and PAGCOR here in the Philippines and around the world,” Quintana added.
